The Alchemist

Paulo Coelho

Finding the courage to pursue your dreams and the possibilities that are awaiting.

Julia’s thoughts

This book was given to me when I was a 19-year-old ‘happiness struggling adolescent’. The mother of a then boyfriend suggested it would be something for me. And she was right! It is such a small yet powerful little book. You can read it in a day, and it will change your life. It tells the story of Santiago, a young Shepperd boy who has a dream that will change his life. To follow his dream, he must let go of people, animals and places he loves. He is tested for courage, reading the signs of life and following his heart. His journey reads as a magical metaphor for life and will give you great insights into your own journey.

‘Why do we have to listen to our hearts?’ the boy asked. ‘Because wherever your heart is, that is where you’ll find your treasure’, said the alchemist.’
